EM Food of Life is part of the Erasmus Mundus program initiated by the European Commission to enhance and promote European higher education worldwide. Two-year Masters Course builts on the expertise of four European universities:

Integration of Animal Science and Food Science and Technology

EM Food of Life is a cross-disciplinary Master course in the science of animal-derived foods. In a unique way, of course combine animal science and food science and technology focuses on social and culture and, of course, the scientific aspects of food production chain.

What will I learn?

Life Through Food EM Master Course, you will acquire basic theoretical knowledge, practical techonologies, and methodology of research and development to prepare you for a career in the food production industry. You will be working with such topics as:

How to meet the increasing global requirements for meat and dairy products
How to deal with an emphasis on improving product quality, proven health benefits to consumers
How to improve animal health and welfare reduced environmental impact

Two University - Double Degree
EM Food Life as a student, you have to learn in a two-state consortium partners. If you hold an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, both countries must be different from the country where you obtained your last university degree.

You will also have the opportunity to short study period in Canada, Britain, New Zealand, or Italy.

The program is taught in English and leading to the award of the Double Degree (120 ECTS) in animal science and / or discipline of food science, depending on the choice of institution.

EU funds
Every 17-20 year scholarships available for non-EU students ($ 24,000 / year) and students of the European Union ($ 10,000 / year).

Double Degree
EM Food Life Course leading to the Double Master Degree, two Master of Science degree from a nationally recognized 120 ECTS.

Non-EU and EU Students
EM Food Life Master course is open to non-EU and EU students.

Every year around. EU 17-20 scholarships are available.

Category A scholarships for Third Country nationals: The amount of € 48,000 EUR
Category B Scholarship for European citizens and others in accordance with the rules of the month 12: Number of € 20,000

Category A scholarship can be awarded to master's students from all countries other than the 27-nation European Union member states and EEA-EFTA: Iceland, Lichtenstein, and Norway. Next, you must abide by the rules 12 months: You do not have the population nor do your main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the country.

Category B scholarships can be awarded to every student masters that do not meet the criteria for category A defined above, the requirements of nationality and 12-month rule.

For both categories please note:

You have to learn in a two-state consortium partners.
Both countries must be different from the country where you obtained your last university degree.

It is possible to put into the course, although you are not awarded a scholarship. You will then have to cover the cost of EM Food Life participatory. If you finance your own studies, you are allowed to study in the state of your last university degree.

Scholars of non-EU
Every year, Food EM Life Master course awards a number of scholarships to third-country scholars / guest lecturers, who wants to spend time at one of four European partner institutions to give lectures, supervise projects, doing research etc.

Scholarship: € 1,200 / week

The next application deadline (for the 2012/13 academic year): December 1, 2011 - Category A and B applicants

Acceptance Criteria

A good first university degree in a relevant discipline (animal science, food science or technology, other biological sciences) (weighting 60%)
High proficiency in English: IELTS: 6.0 TOEFL: 560/IBT 83 (10% weight)
Strong statement of motivation (10% weight)
A good recommendation from two references, which at least one is an academic (weighting 10%)
Relevant work experience (weighting 10%)
