USDA Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship for Indonesia - U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is pleased to announce the 2012 Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Scholarship Program (Borlaug Fellowship Program) for Indonesia.
Borlaug Fellowship Program promotes food security and economic growth by increasing scientific knowledge, promote new agricultural technology transfer, and encouraging collaborative research to improve agricultural productivity. Offers training and collaborative opportunities for agricultural scientists, faculty and policy makers. Each Fellow works one on one with a U.S. mentor who coordinates the Fellow's training. Upon completion of the U.S. based fellowship, Fellow mentor visits the home institution to continue the cooperation.
The 2012 Borlaug Fellowship Program is administered and funded by USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). USDA select U.S. mentor and host institutions for each Fellow.
Objectives:
Provides early to midcareer scientists agricultural research, faculty and policymakers with one-on-one training opportunities in agriculture related fields (see targeted research areas below to the country);
Provide practical experience and exposure to new perspectives and / or technologies that can be applied after completing the program at their home institutions;
Encourage increased cooperation and networking to improve agricultural productivity and trade;
Facilitate transfer of new scientific technology and agriculture to strengthen agricultural practices; and
Address barriers to adoption of technologies such as ineffective policies and regulations.
Target Areas of Research:
FOOD SAFETY
RISK ANALYSIS OF MEAT AND MILK PRODUCTS
AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION
EXTENSION SYSTEM FOR FOOD CROPS (corn or rice) DEALING WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY
Postharvest TECHNIQUE
STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION OF CORN AND RICE; VEGETABLE AND FRUIT PRODUCTS
Length of Scholarship:
Scholarship is between six to 12 weeks. All proposals should include program objectives can be achieved within that time frame. Upon completion of the U.S. based fellowship, Fellow mentor visits the home institution for up to 10 days to continue the collaboration.
Eligibility Requirements:
Candidates will be evaluated, interviewed and selected based on the following criteria:
Indonesian citizen;
Good working knowledge of English;
Holds a master's degree with a minimum of two years of practical experience;
Currently employed by a university, government, research institutions and / or other agencies with the intent to continue working in the country for a minimum of two years after returning from the United States;
Early to midstage of professional careers, and
Experience and focus in Food Security, Agricultural Extension, or Postharvest Engineering.

Qualified candidates are invited to submit their completed application, including the following attachments, no later than January 4, 2012. Applications submitted must include:
Form;
Program proposals (2-3 pages) and action plans;
Signing the consent of the applicant's home institution;
Two letters of recommendation;
Copy of transcript of college / university (s) from which the degree (s) received;
Photocopy of passport identification page, and
One passport sized photograph.
