Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Doctoral Scholarship, United Arab Emirates

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr of Al Qasimi Scholarship encourages scholars from different disciplines and professional fields to undertake research to inform policy-making in the United Arab Emirates. This scholarship is open to Ph.D. students from all countries to study in an accredited university in the UAE and abroad.

Scholarships are financially supported doctoral candidates in their dissertation research stage. In the initial phase, two awards are given each year for applied research projects to be conducted in the UAE. This scholarship covers the cost of all students, including return airfare from home country, accommodation in the UAE during the study period and an allowance to cover living expenses and help with research.

PURPOSE
This scholarship provides an opportunity for university graduates leading researchers to exploit their potential in providing advanced applied research.

Next, encourage high quality research and develop research capacity in the region while promoting cross-cultural exchange and cooperation between the highly acclaimed world wide universities and national institutions in the UAE.

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be candidates for a doctoral degree in an accredited graduate institution wishing to participate in field research for their dissertation. Applicants are not possible on probation, suspension or other temporary registration and must have the ability to speak English with a minimum score

SELECTION CRITERIA
This scholarship is awarded based on merit as measured by academic achievement and the relevance of the research proposal. The applicant's intended field of study also considered in the evaluation process with preference given to candidates pursuing a degree in education or related field of study directly. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr of Al Qasimi Foundation Board of Directors and Advisory Council serves as the evaluation and selection committee.

APPLICATION PROCESS
To register online, you will need the following documents:

The latest available official transcript and degree completion transcript
A resume outlining educational background, work experience, co-curricular and extracurricular activities
Copy of the approved research proposal or preliminary proposal
A two-page essay outlining the reason / s why the candidate is interested in scholarships
Two letters of reference that discusses the suitability of candidates. One letter must be from the candidate's doctoral adviser and the other should be from another academic, and should indicate the nature of the relationship with the candidate and the length of time the relationship

APPLICATION DEADLINE
The deadline for applications for the 2011-2012 Doctoral Research Scholarship has passed. We are currently accepting applications for the 2012-2013 academic year. Applications will be open until June 30, 2012.
