Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholarship (Lars) Program is one of the most successful NASA program a student, for 25 years providing guidance, paid research internships for undergraduate and graduate students in Science, Technoloy, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as well in Business, Communications, Marketing, and other areas that support NASA's mission.

Lars was recently recognized by Vault Career Intelligence as one of the top ten best college internship program in the United States in 2011.

NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), founded in 1917, is the nation's first civilian aeronautical research facility and NASA's original field center. NASA Langley's mission is to pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery, and aeronautics through research and technology development, scientific instruments, and exploration systems. LaRC is also designated as a Center of Excellence for NASA's Structure and Materials.

NASA LaRC invites rising junior and senior undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering (most fields, especially aviation, electrical, chemical, and mechanical), mathematics, materials science, atmospheric science and other related with the field of aerospace, as well as other majors that lend support to NASA's mission in special project areas such as accounting administration, public business, English, journalism, history, photography and media arts programs to apply for Lars. Women and students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

The Scholars Langley Aerospace Research Summer (Lars) Program is managed for NASA by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VGSC) under the auspices of the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA).

PURPOSE
Center-a unique program designed to feed both NASA and the Nation workforce pipeline with students skilled scientists and engineers, encourage high-caliber students to both pursue and earn a college degree, and to increase their interest in space research by exposing them to the resources professional research and state-of-the-art facility LaRC. In addition, students will attend technical lectures and tours, networking with peers and NASA employees, completed technical reports and participate in a poster session to present the results of their research activities.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Lars program hosts more than 170 students every year through the spring, summer, and fall internships. Note that the summer is a 10-week session, while spring and autumn 15-week session.

Salary INFORMATION
Total salaries are based on 10-week study period summer session. 15-week spring and autumn sessions customized.

* Graduate Students - $ 6,000
* Rising Juniors and Seniors - $ 5,000

Student fees Bridge: Please see the Bridge Program under this Lars.

* Increased School Freshmen and sophomores - $ 4,000
* Increasing age High School - $ 3,000 for 10-week session or $ 2,400 for 8-week session

REQUIREMENTS REQUIREMENTS

* U. S. Citizenship
* Full-time student status at an accredited college or U.S. university (Community College students are invited to apply; selection depends on matriculation into an accredited 4-year institution.)
* Classification as a rising junior or senior student, or graduate degree (master's or doctoral degree) by the beginning of the program
* Cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Lars Bridge Program:

* This option allows select outstanding rising high-school seniors, college students rising sophomores and rising college to apply early if they meet the following requirements:
o Must have previous NASA program experience
o Must have a GPA of 3.5
* Examples of previous NASA program experience including programs like NASA SHARP Program, CHROME Club, NASA's School Governors, INSPIRE, VASTS, documented time working on a NASA project associated with a college professor, and the Volunteer Services Program. Students must have participated in these programs at least 40 hours.

A Lars "Bridge Program" option offers the opportunity to select outstanding rising high-school seniors, college freshmen and sophomores who have previous NASA program experience and 3.5 GPA to be considered for an internship at a reduced rate to pay. Previous experience of NASA programs, including programs like NASA SHARP Program, CHROME, NASA Governor School, INSPIRE, VASTS, documented time working on a NASA project associated with a college professor, and the Volunteer Services Program.
