CRG / “la Caixa” International PhD Programme Fellowships, Spain - The "la Caixa" Foundation was started in 2008 offering a scholarship program for outstanding students from around the world the opportunity to take a PhD in Biomedicine at the CRG (Center for Genomic Regulation) this year, 10 four-year scholarship offered to do a PhD in Biomedicine at the CRG.

The "la Caixa" Foundation is a non-profitmaking organization, which receives funds from the third largest financial entity in Spain, Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona, ​​"la Caixa". In terms of budget and business volume, "la Caixa" Foundation is among the ten most important foundation in the world.

Since 1982, "la Caixa" Foundation has run a variety of fellowship programs to allow students to learn Spanish in Spain postgraduate courses and other nations. In the past twenty five years, thousands of students have been able to develop their studies thanks to a scholarship from the Foundation.

The "la Caixa" Foundation CRG chose to start this program because the benefits of the research project, the international nature of the scientific team, the quality of technological equipment, inter-disciplinary nature of projects and the abundance of articles published in top-ranking scientific journals and the media.

The CRG is an international biomedical research institutes of excellence, created at the initiative of the Catalan Government, with the participation of the Pompeu Fabra University, and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. Its mission is to discover and advance knowledge for the public interest, public health and economic prosperity. The CRG is located at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). Research at CRG is centered around six scientific programs, with a broad interdisciplinary collaboration in the following areas:

* Bioinformatics and Genomics
* Gene Regulation
* Your and Developmental Biology
* Differentiation and Cancer
* Genes and Disease
* Systems Biology

Criteria for eligibility

* Candidates can be of any nationality.
* Candidates must hold a university degree by September 2012, and must have a strong commitment to scientific research and excellent academic record.
* Applicants work at CRG for more than 3 months before the deadline will not be considered eligible.

Selection Process
Selection of partners will be based on academic qualifications of candidates' and research excellence.

* Pre-selection: Selection will be based on a pre-candidate's CV, letters of reference and research interests. Incomplete applications will be reviewed within one month after the deadline.
* Oral Interview: Short listed candidates will receive an invitation to visit the CRG for a period of three days of interviews will take place 9-14 weeks after the application deadline.
* Offering Fellowship: Offers will be made to the successful candidates shortly after the interview period. The selected students will have two weeks to accept the position and they have to start the scholarship no later than 1 September.
