The Symantec Research Labs Graduate Fellowship, USA
Symantec plans to begin accepting applications for 2012 Fellowship in July 2011. Award decisions will be made in February 2012.
* Symantec will award Symantec Research Labs Graduate Scholarship for Ph.D. outstanding and M.S. students who meet the eligibility criteria listed below. The main objective of this program is to fund innovative research that has real world value, in areas of Symantec's business interests in information security, availability, and integrity.
* Fellowship participants also get first-hand research and development experience through mentoring and guidance of a scientist of Symantec Research Labs during the fellowship period. Each participant is also encouraged to spend the summer working with their mentor at Symantec in a research project in their areas of interest.
Terms of Awards
* A salary is provided to cover the cost of education, travel and stay for a visit to conduct research on our campus (ie reasonable costs up to $ 25,000 which will be replaced).
* Scholarship recipients have used the free Environment Worldwide Intelligence Network Symantec - an infrastructure for experimental research in Symantec that provides unique access to the current security of the data sample used internally related feeds.
* Mentors from Symantec Research Labs paired with award recipients. Mentor is a leading researcher who can provide ongoing technical guidance on the recipient of research during their graduate training as well as during a summer internship at Symantec.
* All recipients will be encouraged to take a paid summer internship with Symantec Research Labs (Mountain View, CA, Culver City, CA, Herndon, VA, or Sophia Antipolis, France).
* Each recipient will be given a laptop loaded with Symantec software.
* Scholarships are awarded to recipients for one academic year and may be extended for the second year, based on the remarkable progress continued, the recipient of academic awards, standing and achievements. Any extension will be granted only at the discretion of Symantec.
Eligibility Criteria
* Applying students must attend a U.S. or European universities in the Ph.D. or Master's program focused on technology research. Outstanding graduating senior scholars may also apply and final award depends on their acceptance into the graduate program.
* Preference will be given to students with a desire to work in a research laboratory industry and those working on research projects tend to have real-world practical value to customers, in areas related to business Symantec information security, availability, and integrity.
* Recipients will be selected based on their overall potential for research excellence and their academic progress to date as evidenced by the publication.
* These prestigious awards will be made through the university and not diverted to academic institutions.
Required Application Information
Applications should be submitted as a single compressed file (zip file.), And should include the following:
* A fellowship completed application form including personal statement of research interests not exceeding 500 words. Applicants are strongly encouraged to articulate practical value for the customers of the proposed area of their research.
* A C.V. and thesis proposal (optional).
* Three letters of recommendation from professors or industry researchers who can evaluate talent and potential applicants for scientific research (can be sent in confidence, please see the application form for instructions).
* Incomplete applications can not be considered and we can not guarantee notification of incompleteness. Make sure the application is complete.
Date of Application and Process
* Fellowship applications will be accepted beginning July 2011.
* The deadline for applications will be December 18, 2011.
* As part of the application process, some candidates may be contacted for a telephone interview.
* The final award decision will be announced in February 2012.
