The RCA-KAIST Master Degree Program of the Department of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering, KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) is designed to educate and train high-caliber students from the RCA Member of the U.S. with the aim to preserve and enhance nuclear technology to Member States in RCA. The graduates of this program has contributed to the development of nuclear and radiation technology to countries of the graduates' to work in government supported R & D institutions, or government-funded enterprises, universities, etc. as the leader of an elite.

This program has been implemented since March 2003 and 25 students in total from 11 countries have received until now. To complete the course takes up to 2 years on a regular basis and students must meet certain requirements.

2. RCA Scholarship
RCA-KAIST scholarship program coverage are as follows;

Application fee (50,000 Korean Won)
2 years of college (Approximately 8 million Korean Won per academic year)
Allowance (900,000 Korean Won / month): to be paid each month on the 25th of every month to two years.
One-way economy class airfare from the nearest airport from country to Incheon, Korea.

NOTE:

Local transport from airport to Daejeon, and return air ticket after completion of the course is not covered by the program.
On-campus housing (dormitories) can be arranged but the cost should be borne individually. Currently, the space shared by two people at a cost of about 600,000 Korean Won KAIST / semester (subject to change slightly) and payable at the beginning of each semester.
KAIST not provide family housing for married students during the first year. This can be provided in the second year, but there is high competition. So students who want to bring / her family must endure that rent apartments near KAIST quite expensive.
Food on Campus cafeteria cost about 4,000 Korean Won per meal.
Health insurance costs about 40,000 Korean Won / month must also be borne individually.

3. Qualification for Application
Applicants:

must graduate from a 4-year academic institution (or equivalent time) and BA (Bachelor of Arts) or equivalent degree.

Two Letters of Recommendation (download) from two professors from the institution where the applicant to attend a BA or MS degree. The letter by the employer or the national experts of research institutes or private companies will not be accepted.
Academic transcripts from all colleges attended
Graduation (or expected) and degree certificates from all colleges attended
Regular TOEFL (or TOEIC, TEPS, IELTS) score record (for students only from non-English-speaking countries are defined in the following note) - The test taken more than 2 years before the date of application because it can not be accepted.
Copy of Passport: Students should check whether their passport has sufficient validity period and a copy of the first page of the passport must be sent to the Assistant Program KAIST via e-mail (Christine Kim, christine8511@kaist.ac.kr).
Optional: Any material demonstrating applicant's scholastic ability

In the Statement of Financial Resources (one of the application document), you must select the "Sponsoring Organization, Firm, or Government" as a source of funding and write "Program RCA-KAIST Master's Degree" as the name of the sponsor.

All documents must be official and original. Bids may be withdrawn if the entry documents sent candidate found to be false and counterfeit. Also fax and photocopy documents are not considered a valid application. However, transcripts photocopies with a valid stamp fresh regarded as genuine.

All documents must be written in the official English language so if application documents including academic transcript, written in a language other than English, they must be translated into English with the authorization of a public notary in your country.

Applicants from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam must submit one of the official test of English proficiency score higher than the criteria given:

5. How to apply
Applicants must submit their application package directly to the Revenue Management Team at KAIST, and a complete application package must arrive at KAIST by the due date given below. For detailed information, including addresses, please see the website KAIST (http://www.kaist.edu => Register). Registration Management Team will only accept application documents that arrive at KAIST by the due date. They are not responsible for failure in the delivery of application documents by the deadline.

6. Registration Procedures and Coming to KAIST

Screening in the Department:
Student Selection Committee of the Department (which includes a Program Coordinator) at the Department of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering, KAIST will review all applications submitted to the Revenue Management Team KAIST. Then, qualified applicants will be recommended to the KAIST Student Selection Committee. If the number of qualified applicants is larger than the maximum number of students that the program RCA-KAIST Master's degree may receive, some applications can be transferred to KAIST scholarship program.

Acceptance of Evaluation:
Applications recommended by the Selection Committee will be evaluated by the Student Ministry Student Selection Committee KAIST.

Acceptance Notification:
KAIST Admission Team will notify the applicant whether the candidate's entry into acceptable or not.

Program Coordinator and Program Assistant will contact the applicants admitted for further instructions via e-mail.

VISA and Air Ticket:

The students admitted should get his / her visa from the Korean Consulate in his / her country.
If students buy a plane ticket, it will be replaced by the program after arrival, so students must submit an airline ticket and proof of payment issued by a travel company where he / she bought a ticket. If not, students can choose to receive a one-way airplane e-tickets to Korea from KAIST Assistant Program.
He / she should let the program coordinator (or assistant program) know your arrival date and time for booking a dormitory. (2 students will share a room)

Arrival at KAIST: 27 ~ January 31, 2012 (Spring Semester) or 27 ~ August 31, 2012 (Fall Semester)

When students arrive at Incheon airport, they should take the Airport Limousine Bus to Daejeon in 9D platform at the airport. (<₩ 30,000) and tell the driver you will get off at Lotte Hotel in Daejeon former bus stop.
When students arrive at Daejeon, off the bus at the Lotte Hotel bus-stop and take a taxi to KAIST. (<₩ 5,000) and tell the driver you want to get to the House of Mechanical Engineering in KAIST campus or displays the words following the Korean driver.
When students arrived at the N7-1 building (or Nuclear Engineering Building is connected to the Mechanical Engineering Building.) At KAIST, they must go to the department office on the 2nd floor. Program Assistant will guide students to Student Affairs Team (+82-42-350-2162) for application to stay and your room.

Settlement on Campus: ~ January 31, 2012 (Spring Semester) or ~ August 31, 2012 (Fall Semester)

Assistant program will help you to completion (make bank account, ID and key card to enter the building N7-1, a computer account and live cards, etc.)
Report your arrival to the Program Coordinator, Prof. Cho Gyuseong by visiting Room 2404 of N7-1 building for further instructions such as assigning academic advisors, etc.
Students who purchase their own airfare must submit receipts from air fares to the Assistant Program reimbursement.
Students are encouraged to meet the interests of many professors and must specify / academic advisor with the approval of the faculty he / she chooses and then his / her desk in the office learning will be assigned an academic advisor to graduate students.
Students must bring 3 passport size photographs to create photo ID and other official documents are needed without delay.
Students are advised to bring warm clothes for winter, November to February, as well as some of the money (~ 900,000 Korean Won) for the initial set-up because the scholarship can be awarded at the end of each month.

Semester Start: February 1, 2012 (Spring Semester) and 1 September 2012 (Autumn Semester)

Spring 2012 semester begins on February 1, 2012 and 2012 fall semester begins on September 1, 2012.
Total units of credit per semester ranges from 9 to 12.
Students must meet the requirements of the department and KAIST for their graduation.

7. Graduation Requirements
There are two options for tracking the MS degree;

Thesis-based MS degrees
To graduate, students must obtain at least 36 credit units consist of (1) 8 courses (8 × 3 = 24 units) with an average score of 2.5 or higher GPA and (2) research thesis (12 units) for 2 years . The minimum credits for graduation plans are as follows;
English (NQE595 or CCxxx) 1 program 3 credit units
Nuclear energy policy (NQE575/675) 1 program 3 credit units
Nuclear & Quantum ind. program 3 program 9 units of credit
Courses in every department of two courses of 6 units of credit
Thesis research & write 12 units of credit
A total of 3 credit units

Course-based MS degrees
This is an option to complete the MS program without a research thesis (12 units) but with 2 more courses (6 units) + and individual studies (6 units). Students ought to complete the MS degree in 1.5 years. For this option, however, students must consult with his / academic advisor during the first half or second.
