Master Scholarships, Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS), Netherlands


For excellent students enroll in the program Non-EU/EEA Leiden University and a master's degree for students who are very good from all nationalities enroll in the Master Program or the Advanced Law MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy.

For whom?

Non-EU/EEA students enrolled at Leiden University master's degree program starting in September 2012 or February 2013 (All courses MA, MSc and LL.M programs as mentioned in the Master website at Leiden).
All nationalities enrolling in the following programs starting September 2012 or February 2013:
Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Air and Space Law
Master of Laws: Advanced Studies, European and International Business Law
Master of Laws: Advanced Studies International Tax Law
Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Public International Law
MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy

Additional Requirements:

In his academic education abroad before, the applicant must have achieved excellent study results are relevant to the program that students want to register. As an indication, students will be among the top 10% for the relevant program followed abroad
Non-EU/EEA applicant will have a passport and will not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
Scholarships will not be given to applicants who have obtained master's degree at Leiden University
Students are given a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement to the terms and conditions attached to the scholarship prior to awarding of scholarships.

Scholarship Amount:
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship program has 5 awards:

Platinum: Includes tuition fee minus the home fee * and an allowance of € 10,000 for living expenses
Gold: Includes tuition fee minus the home fee *
Silver: Covers 75% of tuition fees
Bronze: Covers 50% of tuition fees
Ivory: Covers 25% of tuition fees

The number and type of scholarships depends on the available budget for each department faculty. Types of awards do not have a reflection on the student's academic level of excellence.

* Tuition fees will be reduced by the amount of the cost of the house. Students who have been awarded Platinum or Gold award still have to pay for their own home.

Application procedures for September 2012 / February 2013 intake

Fill in your online application for admission to the University of Leiden
Upload all the necessary documents
Indicate clearly that you wish to apply for scholarships scholarships LExS on page
Upload motivation letter for scholarships scholarships LExS on page
Submit your online application
Pay the registration fee

Deadline

Deadline March 1, 2012 for programs beginning September 2012.
Deadline 1 April 2012 only for the programs of the Leiden Law School starting September 2012.
October 1, 2012 deadline for the program began in February 2013.

All applicants will be informed by the department LExS Student Education Scholarship.

The end of May 2012 to September 2012 intake.
Mid-November 2012 to February 2013 intake.

Letter of motivation
To apply for a scholarship, you must write a motivation letter (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe that you have to be considered for this scholarship. Word documents should then be attached to the scholarship page in your online application for a master's program you are applying.

It is possible to apply for the scholarship program over the same time. However, it is not possible to obtain more than one scholarship from the University of Leiden to study the same program.

If you have already submitted your online application for admission to the University of Leiden, but still want to apply for a scholarship LExS, we ask you to send a motivation letter to the department LExS Scholarship.

The selection process
Faculty selection committee will review the application. Students are selected based on academic ability.

Rejection
Students are responsible to submit a complete application, according to the steps outlined below 1A-F by the deadline. Leiden University is not responsible for the final application and / or incomplete.
Please note

Students should be aware that LExS not a full scholarship. It is necessary to seek additional funds to finance their studies and stay completely.

One of the requirements to obtain a residence permit in the Netherlands is that students must submit proof that they have sufficient financial ability to finance their studies in the Netherlands. Leiden University suggested the budget, not including tuition, approx. € 10,000 to € 14,000 per year to cover the cost of rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation. How many students actually spend will of course depend on your lifestyle and spending habits.
