New Zealand – ASEAN Scholars Awards for Indonesia


New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Award seeks to provide a major contribution to the development of ASEAN by providing opportunities for postgraduate study (ie Postgraduate Diploma, Master and Doctorate / PhD) in New Zealand.

New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Award (NZ-AS) is part of New Zealand's official development assistance to the ASEAN region. Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, through the New Zealand Assistance Program, providing scholarship schemes.

NZ-US under the scheme, up to 170 scholarships are available to candidates from ASEAN countries. Of the total 170, up to 50 scholarships per year are available to applicants Indonesian. This scholarship is for full-time study at one of nine institutions eligible New Zealand.

Who can apply?
Individuals who meet the following profile may apply for NZ-US scholarship:

From public or private sector;
With the proposed field of study in support of sustainable economic development, as the main focus of New Zealand's Assistance Program, especially in agriculture, renewable energy (geothermal) and disaster risk management;
Strong candidates from all regions will be considered, especially candidates who can demonstrate leadership qualities and potential for future leadership;
Should be under 40 years old at the time of application for the Masters and under 45 years old at the time of application for PhD
Those who have work experience in relevant fields into their intended program of graduate study, and can show the relationship between the previous field of study and their intended field of graduate study.

Applicants must also meet the general eligibility criteria described below Portfolio Scholarship ASEAN countries Indonesia.

Target Candidates

The people of Eastern Indonesia (West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua);
Individuals who are prioritized from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Mineral and Energy Resources Marine Resources and Fisheries, (including relevant research institutions under their Ministries); Environment; Tourism; Department of Education, Foreign Affairs, Police, Planning and Development and the Department defense (civil).

The time frame

11 April 2012: for Applications
August / September: a short list of candidates interviewed and IELTS tests are given, if necessary
September / October: Successful candidate information
January 2013: Pre-departure English language training begins
Janaury 2013: Pre-departure briefing
