Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is a competitive and prestigious scholarship scheme designed to encourage outstanding graduates or final year students to take their first step towards a leading research career by studying for a doctoral degree program (PhD) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) , one of Asia's leading research universities. Funding will be provided up to 4 years for NPGS awardees.
Number of awards available
Up to 30 NPGS awards will be available in each academic year. Successful candidates will be known as the Nanyang President Graduate Scholars.
Minimum qualifications
To qualify for the award NPGS, you must have a First Class Honours degree or equivalent at the Bachelor level and applicants must also demonstrate excellent research capabilities. PhD research will be on any topic agreed between you and your boss choose NTU in the research activities of the NTU. At the time of application, if you have not completed your undergraduate degree program, you will need to complete the documentation from your university that you are on track to earn a First Class Honours degree or equivalent. Failure to do so will disqualify you from NPGS award, in which case you may be considered for other scholarships PhD research NTU, depending on the fulfillment of the selection criteria.
Qualification
During the first year, you will be expected to take relevant courses and worked to pass a qualifying examination. In terms of qualifications are not met, there will be no conversion to a Master for NPGS awardees.
Salaries and benefits
NPGS award terms are:
Monthly stipend of S $ 3200
Full support of tuition fees
Conference allowance for two major overseas conferences in the period of 4 years
One-time IT allowance of S $ 1,500
Annual grant of S $ 500 for the purchase of books or journal subscriptions
Thesis preparation allowance
Priority for subsidized campus accommodation
Teaching
After passing the qualifying examination, NPGS awardees will be expected to do some undergraduate teaching (up to a limit of 10 hours per week). Scholarship recipients will be replaced if they are teaching hours beyond what is required by the framework of their PhD training. Contribution to undergraduate teaching would require a high level of English language skills and you may be asked to attend an English course required in your first year.
Nationality
There is no limitation due to race and the candidates but, all things are equal preference will be given to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Citizens.

Application for AY2013-14 will be open from September 1, 2012 to October 31, 2012. Applicants who are interested to apply for the 2014 intake in August 2013 or January should apply during this period.
