The Leibniz-Institute for Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is the largest freshwater ecology research institute in Germany (ww.igb-berlin.de). It is a member of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. and the Leibniz-Association (www.wgl.de). IGB offers excellent laboratory and field facilities for interdisciplinary research, large-scale experimental facilities, and long-term research programs and data sets. IGB carries out
high-quality basic and applied research in the following areas:

Freshwater ecology

Ecology and behaviour of fish
*
Biodiversity
*
Adaptation and functional diversity
*
Molecular phylogenetics and population genetics
*
Sustainable aquaculture
*
Management of freshwater ecosystems
*
Aquatic-terrestrial and ground water-surface water linkages
*
Ecohydrology – hydrological modelling
IGB offers up to 5 fellowships for PhD students, Postdocs, or Senior Scientists for 6 – 24 months each. These fellowships are designed to enable outstanding scientists to actively participate in and contribute to the research program at IGB, thus supporting their personal education and training. The working language of the laboratories at IGB is English and we value diversity in backgrounds and nationalities. IGB is determined to increase the proportion of women in successful scientific careers and particularly encourages female scientists to apply. Disabled persons with equal qualifications will be favoured.
Value:
The monthly stipend is 1.365 Euro at the PhD level, 1.828 Euro at the PostDoc level, and 2.600 Euro at the senior scientist level. In addition, IGB may provide consumables and travel allowances to successful candidates.
Eligibility :
Applicants must hold a Diplom/Master’s (PhD fellowship) or a PhD (PostDoc and Senior Scientist fellowship) in a subject relevant to one of the above-listed
research fields.
