Master & PhD Scholarships, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea- Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) offers programs leading to MS, Ph.D. and integrated M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Students are expected to maintain full-time student status and continuous enrollment until completion of all requirements. It normally takes two years to complete an MS program and four years for Ph.D. The program. For Master's degree, students take a maximum of three years to complete their degree. For integrated M.S. and Ph.D. program, students have a maximum of eight years to complete their degree. Ph.D. students have a maximum of seven years to complete their degree.
Full tuition scholarship
All students GIST are given full tuition scholarship for two years from the MS program and a four-year Ph.D. The program.
Monthly salary
All students receive the benefits of all GIST two years for the MS program, and four years for Ph.D. The program. Students are required to maintain full time status. M.S. students receive a monthly honorarium ₩ 220,000 and 250,000 won for a Ph.D. the students. Free Dormitory Housing

Experiments Costs
To M.S. students, up to ₩ 229,900 per year can be reimbursed from the amount spent for research trials, and up to ₩ 270,600 per year for a Ph.D. students, with the approval of their academic advisor.
Thesis / Dissertation Research Expense
Costs associated with research for MS thesis students can be replaced up to ₩ 511,000 per year, and ₩ 901,250 per year for a doctoral dissertation, with the approval of their academic advisor.
Research assistant
Research assistants are available to qualified students working on funded projects. Students are given assistants also must be paid in accordance with their working hours and level of participation in the project.
Health Insurance Costs
For international students, 60% of the Korean National Health Insurance costs are supported by GIST. For students who receive scholarships Korean Government IT, however, 30% of the Korean National Health Insurance costs are supported by GIST.

Application Deadlines
The registration deadline for fall entry is April 15 and to enter the spring, October 15. Final application will be considered for the next semester. In order to be considered for admission, the official English language test results must reach us before the deadline. English language scores more than two years are not accepted.
Do I have to submit TOEFL scores?
Because English is the medium of instruction in GIST and success in graduate study depends on the competence of English, the official English language test results must be submitted by the applicant is not a native born citizen of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Britain and the United States as part of their applications.
Applicants holding a bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited institution in one of the countries listed above can be exempted from the English language requirement with the prior approval of GIST.
English Language Requirements

Conditional Acceptance
Applicants from countries that do not offer an official English language test (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC or TEPS) or other applicants for whom it is impossible to take such tests because of an emergency (including a schedule conflict or excessive economic burden does not include the cost of the exam) can be allowed to apply to the Institute and can be given conditional admission. Conditional acceptance requires one or more of the following criteria:
If the applicant submit documentation relating to the ability of the English language issued by the President and Dean of the last school attended.
If the applicant passes the evaluation of English proficiency in an interview face to face with is managed by an English professor from the Institute, or a member of the selection committee during the academic events such as symposia organized by the Institute abroad.
Students admitted with conditional admission GIST must, within 6 months from the date of admission, submit official English language test results that meet the criteria for application of the Institute.
