Postdoctoral Position on Accurate Time Transfer by Optical Fiber Link, Paris Observatory, France -Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate on Transfer Time Accurately with Fiber Optics links
Application Deadline: Open in January 2012, Until Filled
Description
LNE-SYRTE (Observatoire de Paris) and the Laboratoire de Physique de Laser (Université Paris 13) is looking for a post-doctoral research associate to develop a new concept for the transfer of accurate time with an optical fiber link based on two-way transmission of an optical / microwave phase, with the aim of the ultra-precise long-distance synchronization.
LNE-SYRTE and LPL have demonstrated the transfer of ultrastable microwave and ultra-stable optical frequency over fiber links. Long-distance frequency dissemination networks developed through optical FIBE. A new project now aims to develop long-distance transfer for remote synchronization time accurately.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work mainly in fiber optics, marking time, calibration and the ultra-precise time synchronization, stabilization of laser heterodyne frequency and phase measurement system. He or she will be expected to participate in experimental work by setting up an optoelectronic system at LNE-SYRTE in close collaboration with LPL consisting of a laser source and heterodyne detection, and long-term testing of fiber link.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, creative, with a demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment. Experimental background in optoelectronics, fiber optics and laser frequency stabilization welcome. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in applied physics, optics, telecommunications or a related discipline. The position was originally a one-year appointment, and can be extended to long term.
LNE-SYRTE is the national metrology institute for Time & Frequency, focusing on advanced metrology began to span time and time and frequency transfer to microwave frequency standards and optical clocks and inertial sensors. SYRTE has established a strong research program in optical metrology (ultra-stable laser sources, optical coldatom hour, the femtosecond laser comb), and ultra-stable laser link distance over fiber optic networks. Located in the heart of Paris, we enjoy close to several world-class educational institutions, and multicultural opportunities.
The LPL is a physics laboratory associated with CNRS and Université Paris 13. This project developed a number of experiments in the field of cold gas, interferometry, high resolution molecular spectroscopy, biomedical optics, bio and nano-optical spectroscopy. The group is developing a relationship Hotes ultrastable optical and high-sensitivity experiments are fundamental to the molecule.
Interested candidates are invited to apply, via email with CV, references and cover letter
