Eligibility for Application

Applicants and their parents must be citizens of a country other than Korea.
Applicants who have a dual nationality including Korean can not apply.
Applicants must be healthy enough so that they can sustainedly study in Korea.
Applicants must submit the Personal Medical Assessment when applying. After receiving an admission approval from GNU, please go to a local hospital and apply for the Official Medical Assessment, and then submit it. If we find a disease or critical health issue such as HIV or drug abuse causing troubles to your study, your admission will be cancelled.
Applicants must be under the age of 40 as of September 1, 2012.(Birth date after September 1, 1972)
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or be graduate-to-be as of August 31, 2012.
Applicants for Master’s programs must hold Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Applicants for Doctoral programs must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent.
Applicants who have previously registered in the same programs at other Korean universities are not eligible to apply.
Applicants expecting to earn their degrees by August 31, 2012 must submit a certificate assuring that they are receiving a degree by their home institutions, and also are required to submit an official degree diploma to GNU before September 1, 2012.
Applicants’ grade point average(GPA) must be higher than B(3.0 out of 4.0), or higher than 80 percent out of 100.
If it is inappropriate for applicants to submit GPA or its percentage table, they can submit their transcripts by their home institutions instead.
Applicants who have a Korean Language Certificate(TOPIK, KLPT) or English Language Certificate(TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS) will get extra points during the first selection stage.
Applicants for natural sciences or engineering can be preferably selected in case they compete with other applicants with identical qualification and evaluation results in different programs other than natural sciences and engineering.

Application Procedure

First stage (OIEC): check applicants eligibility
Second stage(department):Admission committee(contain more that 3 professors) will exam applicants eligibility based on the admission guide and a number of factors such as grade point average, recommendation letter, resume, study plan and language proficiency among successful first stage.

Campus Life (Residence Hall)

We offer dormitory to foreign student priority
Fixed number of dormitory: 3,254 (male: 1,641, female:1,613)
Preparation for move in: bed stuff, household items

Important Notes

Applicants SHOULD BE RECOMMENDED by ONLY ONE INSTITUTION. In case that an applicant is recommended by more than one institution, his/her application shall be rejected
Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicant.
Incorrect or incomplete documents are subject to rejection for application screening. If Incorrect or incomplete documents are found after admission, his/her admission shall be cancelled.
When applicants submit document copies, it is also required to submit a verification of original from recommendation institution.
Personal Medical Assessment should be addressed correctly by applicant. If any serious illness or disease is found in Official Medical Assessment, his/her admission shall be cancelled.
If an applicant has any published dissertation, please submit one or two copies of the dissertation.
If an applicant received any awards, please submit one copy of it. (verification of original is required from awarding institution.)
If an applicant finished his/her undergraduate degree in Korea, the applicant should submit a recommendation letter issued by Dean of former university.
Applicants can not apply for a combined master’s and doctorate program.
No student is allowed to transfer universities once his/her admission is accepted in one university.
