The International Climate Protection Scholarships allow prospective leaders to conduct research projects related to their own choice while staying one year in Germany. The program, funded under the International Climate Initiative by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, including an intensive preparatory language course in Germany, a few weeks of introductory seminars, training courses and the final two weeks of meetings in Berlin. This activity will allow you to gain additional insight into the academic, social, cultural, economic and political development in Germany.

In addition to applicants who have been trained in the natural sciences and engineering, candidates who have been involved in legal matters, economic and social development related to climate change are encouraged to apply for this program. Each year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is granting scholarships to 20 International Climate Protection for the future leaders of the countries named. The program is scheduled to run until 2012.

Requirements:

The first academic degree (Bachelor or equivalent), completed less than 12 years before the start of the fellowship (1 September 2012.);
A more academic or professional qualification (Master, PhD, LL.M., MBA, etc.) or extensive professional experience in a leadership role (at least 48 months at the time of application) in the field of climate protection and resource conservation;
Early practical experience (at least 12 months at the time of application) through involvement in projects related to climate protection and resource conservation (probably during the study period);
Potential leadership shown by the initial experience in a leadership position and / or appropriate references (see # 8.);
A detailed statement by a host in Germany, including confirmation of support; details of the proposed project should be discussed with the prospective host before application;
Citizenship of a threshold of non-European or developing countries (see list of countries) which is also a place to live habit colleagues and the workplace;
Very good knowledge of English and / or German, documented by a certificate of appropriate language;
Two to three expert references by individuals qualified to comment on the candidate's professional, personal and, if applicable eligibility, academic and his / her leadership potential.

Potential applicants who have spent more than six months in Germany, or more than 12 months in a country that is not on the list of states at or just prior to application should contact the Humboldt Foundation (info@avh.de) before submitting an application as they may be eligible to formal reasons.

Selection Procedure
Applications must be completed online. Completed application form including all required additional documents must be submitted online by the closing date (December 15, 2011). Confirm that your documents have been received will be sent to you immediately after you have submitted them.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that he has submitted all necessary documents. Incomplete applications may be excluded from the selection procedure.

Applications will be reviewed and possibly until mid-March, an independent selection committee will choose candidates who will be invited to participate in the selection meeting three days in Germany. This selection meeting should take place in late April, and the applicant will then be given the opportunity to describe their project to the selection committee and the other applicants as well as to attend an individual interview conducted by the selection committee. At the end of the selection results will be announced.
